Looks like Google is planning on bringing Android and "open" smartphone apps to your car, in a joint venture with automakers like Honda and Audi: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Don't forget to clear your Dalvik cache, or the car may overheat

I'd prefer a car entertainment system to offer some simple functions and act as a middle man with my phone, so it's my actual phone that runs the entertainment OS and software and all. That way it will be up to date all the time, for the lifetime of the car, as phones tend to be much newer than cars.

I don't really want Android in my car and I most certainly don't want iOS in my car.

While this is kinda cool, I don't see the point in having all this extra crap in a car. It's a freaking car for crying out loud.. one is supposed to be enjoying driving it even if it's only in shitty traffic. Save the apps, texting, etc for when you are the passenger or when you're not driving. I don't care if it's Android or Apple (I am a 'Fandroid') We don't need this stuff. On the rare occasion I do, I've got a clip for my Nexus 5 for my dash so I can use it as a GPS or for hands free bluetooth calling. Though I prefer to drive and not flap my gums on the phone when behind the wheel moving the gears while in traffic.

Rooting the car doesn't sound half bad. Grant yourself full TCS/ESP/ABS/nanny control. Turn off the damn warning noises. Install a mod that replaces the ecological gear shift recommendations with those that wring out the last bit of your engine. Why not use the "eco" switch for a race track mode? Endless possibilities...
